Biography

Elena Ramazza (Bologna, 1986) graduated in History and Protection of Artistic Heritage at the Università di Firenze (2009). She completed a Master in Visual Arts at the Università di Bologna (2011) and a Master in Analysis and Management of Artistic Heritage at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (2020).

Her academic education is international and combines various fields of art history. At the University of Florence, she specialized in the formalist techniques of recognition and attributions of works from all periods, while at the University of Bologna she focused on the more theoretical aspects of the reception and reading of the image, through the study of the Semiotics of art. His Master's thesis Bologna 1970: due mostre in bilico tra storia e futuro has been presented among the best works of the Dipartimento di Arti Visive of the Università di Bologna.

In Italy, she has worked as a digital restorer of cinematographic material at the laboratory 'L'immagine Ritrovata' in Bologna, and then in Tourism, obtaining the title of Superior Technician for the Promotion of Tourism. She has worked as a tourist guide in the main Italian cities and as a promoter of the Emilia-Romagna region as a destination, with foreign tour operators.

She is currently an associate professor at the Universitat Autónoma de Barcelona for the subjects 'Reading the Artistic Image' and 'Egyptian Art'. At the same time, she is writing her PhD thesis, The language of E.-E. Viollet-le-Duc in Spain and Italy (1868-1914). Ornamental repertoires, architectural interpretation and aesthetic rewriting, under the supervision of professors Manuel Castiñeiras (UAB), Ricard Bru (UAB) and Francesco Ceccarelli (UniBO). His research covers the subject of the codification of medieval art as a language, developed during the 19th century by E.-E. Viollet-le-Duc in France and his followers in Catalonia and Emilia-Romagna. The work aims to analyse Viollet-le-Duc's followers as interpreters of a language that uses the elements of medieval art for its words and syntax, with the intention of creating a myth of a political community. The theoretical basis is modelled on the discipline of semiotics, with contributions from philosophy and social history. The range of the subjects of the research goes from medieval sources - manuscripts, decorations, architecture - to modern re-readings such as graphic works, architecture and decoration, to restoration campaigns and photographic reportages.
